Profile of Henry Wilson, Jr.

While working toward a degree in civil engineering, Henry Wilson, Jr. also learned about commitment and perseverance. From 1957-68, he pursued his degree through UC's College of Evening and Continuing Education, which he says offered a program that was affordable, flexible, and supportive of its students.

After earning his degree in 1968, he founded his own company, WA Inc., a Cincinnati-based architectural and engineering firm with offices in Columbus and Fairfield, Ohio and Kenton County, Kentucky. He is also founder and owner of Henry's on the Skywalk Restaurant.

"The College of Evening and Continuing Education taught me about commitment and gave me the desire to achieve," says Mr. Wilson, who earned his degree while working full-time, as a draftsman for Cincinnati Water Works. "The flexibility in the evening college schedule gave me the opportunity to earn a degree while supporting and raising a family."

Mr. Wilson's family is also involved in his working life. His wife, Carrie, is secretary of both companies; daughters Peggy (a graduate of Miami University) who works in the firm as an interior designer, and Pamela (a graduate of Hampton University) who manages Henry's, are both vice-presidents of Henry's on the Skywalk.

Among the major design projects of WA Inc. are the National Afro-American Museum in Wilberforce, Ohio; Greater Cincinnati International Airport's new East/West Runway; Cincinnati Convention Center; the Aviation and Johnston Laboratories at Ohio State University; new University of Cincinnati University College building; and the Discovery Pavilion building for the 1992 World Ameriflora Exposition in Columbus, Ohio.

A Hughes High School graduate, Mr. Wilson strives to give something back to his community. He serves as a board member of the Cincinnati Chamber of Commerce, and has served on the boards of the U.C. Foundation, Contemporary Arts Center, and Hamilton County State Bank. Mr. Wilson chaired the 1991-92 Annual Fund Drive of the College of Evening and Continuing Education.
